Cheaper dentures are attracting more and more medical tourists to Hungary. Besides the cost savings other factors such as quality and time play a vital role.
Potsdam, XX. November 2019- Medical tourists who have chosen to seek dental treatments in Hungary are saving on average over 7,242 Euro in comparison to a treatment in their home countries despite all travel and accommodation costs. This is one of the key findings of the latest patient survey done by FirstMed Services about dental tourism. For the representative survey- “Medical Tourism in Hungary- A Study on Developments in Dental Tourism in the Last Ten Years (2009-2019)” questionnaires were distributed to a total of 4,200 medical tourists. Of these, 2,550 patients participated in the survey. By comparing current responses with studies from the years 2010 and 2013 many relevant trends and development can be identified.
The average savings per patient is increasing
Most of the medical tourists choose to get treated abroad due to the cheaper cost. And the survey reveals that this this expectation has been met by 95 percent of the respondents. It is also an increase over the results of the previous studies in which the values were at 93% and 92% respectively. At the same time, the average savings per patient has steadily increased in the last eight years: after taking all costs into account, in 2010 a medical tourist saved an average of 6,301 Euro on a dental treatment in Hungary, in 2013 the savings were 7,128 Euro and in 2018 even 7,242 Euro. This corresponds to an increase of almost 15 percentage points since the first survey. Based on the average treatment costs of currently 12,897 Euro, a medical tourist in Hungary paid significantly less than half of the costs that he would have paid in his home country for the same treatment. In other words: the more complex the dental treatment, the higher the savings.
The quality of dentures is better in Hungary
„Experience has shown that the price advantage for a dental treatment in Hungary is between 30 and 70 percent. Therefore, I am not surprised about the average savings However a new finding is that many patients opt for a dental care in Hungary due to the high quality of the treatments. According to our survey, nearly a third (28%) of respondents think that the quality of care in Hungary is better. Moreover, the fast arrangement of appointments was also praised by 23 percent”, explains Eszter Jopp, founder and managing director of FirstMed Services GmbH.
